In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé asked the graphic designer Cassandre to design the house’s logo.

Born to French parents in Ukraine, Adolphe Jean Marie Mouron, who adopted the pseudonym Cassandre, was one of the world’s greatest graphic designers during the interwar period. He was appreciated for his synthetic, geometrical style and was sought after by major names, such as Christian Dior.

For Yves Saint Laurent, he created a monogram of three simple intertwined initials, which was elegant and modern just like the young man.

Né en Ukraine de parents français, Adolphe Jean Marie Mouron, qui prend le pseudonyme Cassandre, est l’un des grands graphistes du monde de la publicité de l’entre-deux-guerres. Son style, très synthétique et géométrique, plaît et les grands noms font appel à lui, à l’exemple de Christian Dior.

Pour Yves Saint Laurent, il imagine un monogramme à la fois élégant et moderne, à l’image du jeune homme, dont les trois initiales s’entrelacent avec simplicité.
