At the Silverstone Grand Prix, Mercedes was expected to win and Ferrari would win, Lewis was expected to win and Charles would win, Antonelli was expected to win and Russell would come in second.
Despite sincere compliments to Maranello for their incredible power recovery over their rivals and to Leclerc for driving excellently all weekend and deservedly winning by a wide margin on the track, in F1 the drivers' championship is won, unless you have a dominant car, when you adopt the following policies: 1) focus on one driver, 2) get the strategies right.
From the championship won by Raikkonen to Alonso, Ferrari always focused on a single driver and systematically screwed up everything possible and imaginable in terms of strategies, until they hit rock bottom, making a fool of themselves with their previous team principal.
After Alonso, they chose to have two drivers without choosing one and they continued to screw up the strategies—certainly less, because more would have been impossible. Result: several points lost in 2026 with a car potentially capable of winning the world championship because it was well-designed and with a driver, Hamilton, possessing all the credentials to do so.
At Silverstone, an easy one-two was already handed to them on a silver platter. Honestly, it was thought impossible to lose if not for mechanical failures.
And it certainly would have been too much to ask Leclerc to let Hamilton win, as they would have done at Red Bull and also at Mercedes, where they have already said they will focus on Antonelli. Too much, yes, because Charles truly didn't deserve it.
But the move to call Hamilton into the pits for a tire change, an action defended by the team principal at the end of the race rather than admit a mistake that had seemed clear to everyone, cost Lewis a second place that was already secured. And it's no excuse that the race director (but what criteria do they use to select race directors? Are they capable of understanding and willing?) decided not to restart the race (only a deviant mind like his could understand the reason, honestly, otherwise we really don't understand why) because an overtaking move is always future and with an unpredictable and risky outcome, while if you're already second, you're already fine.
And then a few words about Russell, a driver who's always very lucky, always finds himself in the right place in the FIA's decisions. When you think badly, you're sometimes right, someone important said…
Ferrari can win the championship with this car. Please help her.
