2013 metai Lietuvos vidaus vandens telkiniuose uždraudus verslinę žvejybą (su išimtimis) Kauno mariose įvyko staigus ir labai ryškus žuvų biomasės didėjimas. Šiandien kilograminė kuoja Kauno mariose nieko nebestebina, o kartu su plakiais ir karšiais šios žuvys sudaro daugiau nei pusę visų Kauno marių žuvų pagal svorį.

In 2013, following the ban on commercial fishing (with exceptions) in Lithuania’s inland waters, there was a sudden and very significant increase in fish biomass in the Kaunas water reservoir. Today, a kilogram-sized roach in the Kaunas reservoir is no longer a surprise, and together with white bream and bream, these fish account for more than half of all fish in the Kaunas Lagoon by weight.

Pūvanti mediena ir išvirtę medžiai nėra "netvarka miške". Tai ypatingai svarbios buveinės, suteikiančios prieglobstį ne tik įprastoms, tačiau ir saugomoms bei nykstančioms rūšims. Šiuo metu, į Lietuvos raudonąją knygą įrašyti skiauterėtieji tritonai žiemoja būtent tokiose vietose, o atėjus pavasariui išlys iš savo žiemojimo vietų ir skubės prie vandens pratęsti giminės :)

Rotting wood and fallen trees are not merely “forest litter.” They are vital habitats that provide shelter not only for common species, but also for protected and endangered ones. Crested newts, listed in the Lithuanian Red Book, currently hibernate in such locations. When spring arrives, they will emerge from their winter refuges and head to the water to continue their life cycle.
