THE BURSARY LOAN NOTICE

APPLICATIONS FOR LOAN BURSARY FUND (NMDS) FUNDING TO STUDY MEDICINE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAMBIA FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/27

The Government of Lesotho through Loan Bursary Fund (NMDS) inaugurates bursary loans financing program for Basotho to specialized medical studies at the University of Zambia from the academic year 2026/2027. The program is to accelerate adequate capacity for most needed medical skills in the Lesotho health system. The program starts with priority postgraduate medical specialization studies as listed here below in which suitable Basotho candidates are invited to apply for their admissions at the University of Zambia for the September 2026 intake closing on 30th June 2026.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

- Be a Mosotho of Lesotho
- Meet minimum entry requirements holding a 1st degree in Bachelor of Medicine (MBCHB) from a recognized institution with completed internship.
- Must be registered with Medical Council of Lesotho and willing to register with Zambian Medical Council for studies.
- Must apply for the Loan Bursary Fund stipulated priority studies (Postgraduate Medical Specialized Programs) to the University of Zambia.
- Must have at least settled 50% and arrears of their previous bursary loans.

PRIORITIES THAT ARE SPONSORED BY THE FUND ARE AS FOLLOWS:

(i) Vitreo - Retinal Surgery/ Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery/ General Surgery
(ii) Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus/ Ophthalmology
(iii) Pediatric Nephrology/ Pediatric surgery/ Urology / Adult Neurology/ Dermatology and Venereology
(iv) Pediatric Infectious Diseases
(v) Pediatric Gastroenterology/ Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine/ Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease
(vi) Pediatric Anesthesia/ Anesthesia and critical care
(vii) Pediatrics and Child Care/Health?
(viii) Neonatology
(ix) Male Genitourinary construction and Prosthetics/ Obstetrics and Gynecology-Oncology
(x) Glaucoma
(xi) Forensic Pathology/ Anatomical Pathology
(xii) Breast Surgery
(xiii) Community Eye Health/ Psychiatry

Applications for bursary loans at Fund will be announced once after 30th June 2026 closure of admission applications at the University.

University of Zambia - Postgraduate Student Information System:

Thabo Morahanye (UJ) to submit proof of registration which reflects all modules registered for, urgently at Registry Office.

Mpinane Makopela (UJ) is requested to urgently complete and submit a Change of Programme Form to reflect the programme for which she is currently registered instead of the programme to which she was initially admitted.

The form must clearly indicate the full names of both the admitted programme and the registered programme. Once completed, it should be sent to a designated person who can submit it on her behalf as a matter of urgency.

THE SCHOLARSHIP NOTICE

APPLICATIONS FOR LOAN BURSARY FUND (NMDS) BURSARY TO STUDY MEDICINE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAMBIA FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/27

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the Government of Lesotho loan bursary to the University of Zambia for the following Postgraduate Medicine specialization Programmes:

(i) Vitreo Retinal Surgery
(ii) Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
(iii) Paediatric Nephrology
(iv) Paediatric Infectious Diseases
(v) Paediatric Gastroenterology
(vi) Paediatric Anesthesia and critical care
(vii) Neonatology
(viii) Male Genitourinary construction and Prosthetics
(ix) Glaucoma
(x) Gastroenterology
(xi) Forensic Pathology
(xii) Breast Surgery
(xiii) Community Eye Health

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
-Meet minimum entry requirements of a 1st degree in Bachelor of Medicine (MBCHB) from a recognized institution with completed internship.
-Must be registered with Medical Council of Lesotho and willing to register with Zambian Medical Council.
-Original and certified copies of academic and professional certificates and transcripts (Qualifications from non NMDS sponsored public and private international institutions should be evaluated).
-Original and certified copies of National ID and a valid passport.
-Curriculum Vitae
-Proof of application or admission for all programmes applied for.
-Employer’s nomination letter for study leave.
-Must have paid at least 50% of their repayable loan bursary with proof to have done so (for previously sponsored students).

Applicants are encouraged to have applied by 30th June 2026 so that they are able to meet all the other administrative requirements by the University.
