A Sonnet for the Woman Who Stayed Too Long

I walked beside you, yet I walked alone,
My heart outstretched, unanswered in the dark,
Each hope I gave returned to me as stone,
Each promise faded, leaving only mark.
I bent and broke to fit the shape you made,
Until my soul grew weary, thin, and small,
And still your love remained a debt unpaid,
A distant echo down an empty hall.

I spoke my truth — you met it with your silence,
A colder wound than anger ever brings,
And in that hush I felt my final reliance
Slip free from all imagined hopeful things.
So now I choose myself, though torn apart —
For I must save what’s left of my own heart.

In Quiet Ways

Some connections
do not arrive loudly.
They come in gentle ways —
in pauses,
in laughter,
in the comfort of being understood
without needing to explain.

They grow in shared moments,
in honest conversations,
in the simple safety
of being seen
just as you are.

And sometimes,
a heart notices
before the mind is ready to name it.

So it stays quiet.
It observes.
It feels.
It holds the moment gently,
afraid that words might
break what silence is building.

Not every feeling asks to be spoken.
Some only ask to be honored.

To exist.
To breathe.
To be real —
without pressure,
without demand,
without expectation.

And if meaning ever lingers
between the lines,
let it be soft.
Let it be kind.
Let it be patient.

Because the most beautiful things
often unfold
when they are not forced.
