Watanga listed two reasons to back the move.
1. That the club had planned pre-season friendlies in North Africa, as such, they didn't want to travel to the north twice which would have been expensive for the club to handle.

2. That the friendlies and two CAF Champions League matches against MC Algers would have been used to expose their players to scouts who they said would have come from Europe and other North African countries.
