Environmental Rescue Initiative

This is good news. Congratulations to SMART Liberia and Orange Money for this partnership. Indeed, true independence means we take care of ourselves.
Christmas is a time to share good tidings and great joy to all. That’s why Environmental Rescue Initiative is embarking on a project to remove 7500 pieces of single used plastics from the environment in Harrisburg Township, Liberia 🇱🇷 in an effort to promote environmental sustainability. The plastic sachets removed from the environment will be recycled into book bags that will be given to female students from two schools in Montserrado County free of charge as their Christmas gift🎁. We invite to collaborate with us in putting smile on the faces of these students.

“Real change happens when we invest in people and the planet. A win for environmental sustainability is a win for Liberia’s future.”
A lot has been happening lately. We are glad to announce that Environmental Rescue Initiative has been awarded a certificate for successfully completing the USAID - US Agency for International Development Conservation Works Market Readiness Program in Liberia.
The Market Readiness Program provided training and mentorship designed to prepare small tourism businesses to be “market ready” for visitors eager to explore unique accommodations and tourism experiences across Liberia. It was an opportunity to network with fellow program participants and esteemed stakeholders in this space. Thanks to the Liberia National Tourism Association and partners for the opportunity. It is a necessary tool to help drive our goal of building a community-based Recycling Resource Center (RRC) that will eventually start a recycling revolution in Liberia.

It’s more than two years already, and we are still making impact. Thanks to the U.S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia for the grant.
A local organization, Environmental Rescue Initiative is using a $4,000 Ambassador’s Special Self–Help (SSH) Grant to turn plastic waste into shopping bags in the Township of Harrisburg, near Liberia’s Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant.
Abraham L.B. Freeman, a Liberian environmentalist who works at the plant, came up with the idea for the project after plastic was discovered in one of the plant’s pipes during routine maintenance.
The Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund (SSH) assists community groups in Liberia to develop lasting, self-sustaining projects that benefit entire communities.
Since 2004, SSH grants have contributed to agricultural modernization, economic development, improving sanitation, empowering vulnerable populations (women, youth, and persons with disabilities), improving learning conditions, and expanding access to clean water, health services, and education.
