Liberia 🇱🇷
Former Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa Announces Exit from Legislative Politics After Two Terms
Staff Writer:
Monrovia — In a surprising yet reflective announcement, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, has declared that he will not seek re-election after completing his second term in 2029. The veteran lawmaker and legal luminary says his decision is rooted in a desire to promote leadership renewal and set an example for political transition in Liberia.
Speaking on Okay Morning Rush (99.5 FM), Cllr. Koffa stated candidly, “Two terms is enough for me. 2029, I’m not returning to the Capitol Building.” The statement signals the end of an era for one of Liberia’s most influential legislators, whose tenure has been marked by reform-driven leadership, bipartisan cooperation, and advocacy for good governance.
Cllr. Koffa’s retirement announcement has stirred national conversation, with many describing it as a rare act of humility in a political environment where extended tenure often dominates. Analysts say his departure could reshape the 2029 political landscape and inspire a wave of younger aspirants to step forward.
During his time in office, the former Speaker championed several key reforms, including legislative transparency, anti-corruption initiatives, and economic empowerment measures. His leadership was particularly noted for fostering cooperation across party lines and strengthening the credibility of the Legislature.
Supporters and observers alike have hailed his decision as an example of principled leadership. “Hon. Koffa’s move is a message to all politicians that public service is about impact, not permanence,” said University of Liberia student and political observer Cyrus Nagbe.
While Cllr. Koffa has not disclosed specific post-political plans, sources close to him suggest he may turn his attention to philanthropy, mentorship, and legal consultancy.
As Liberia’s democracy continues to mature, Cllr.

Update!
Senator Abe Darius Dillon writes 👇
What has "changed" under two years ... compared to previous years?
● General peace and security is healthy✅️
● LEC current is way more stable and expanding across the country ✅️ (Many people and homes can not even remember the last time they used or thought about using their generators
● Petroleum products ... consistently stable on the market with reduced prices✅️
● Rice ... consistently stable on the market with reduced prices✅️
● Pipeborne Water ...increasingly more available with low cost/fee and expanding across the country✅️
● Rebranded, positive International image and relations✅️
● UN Security Council✅️
● Roads networks ... rehabilitation and constructions✅️
● Fight against corruption☑️
(Public officials are being suspended and or dismissed; but more actions expected and needed)!
● Private sector jobs for qualified Liberians VERSUS sales of "Work Permit"❌️ (Keen attention and focus needed here to provide private sector jobs)
● Illicit drug is intensely being fought☑️
On the overall ... less than two years is showing a significant and positively marked progress as well as departure from previous years of regression.
And, with the steady and incremental progress under two years, year three and going forward should promise to see even more positive "change" and progress!
So, the argument that "nothing has changed" in nearly two years is simply the usual political cliche and is very 'lazy'!!!
Yes, da me Darius Dillon ... say so !!!
