PRESS STATEMENT

September 23, 2015

The attention of the Administration of the General Services Agency has been drawn to the bizarre allegation levied by few media outlets to the effect that the General Services Agency has failed to account for one Hundred (100) Ebola vehicles.

The General Services Agency see this smear campaign as a shock as it is in receipt of an audit report from the Internal Audit Agency in which none of the 382 vehicles reported by the General Services Agency, Ministry of Health and the National Task Force on Ebola is reported missing and of the 134 motorcycles reported, only one was reported stolen in Margibi County.

Because the normal health care delivery program could not be hampered by the audit, a few vehicles especially ambulances could not be physically verified at the time of the initial audit but the Internal Audit Agency has confirmed that the authorities at the Ministry of Health have since taken action and begun gathering them for physical verification. The verification of the remaining vehicles will serve as an addendum to the audit report.

The release mentioned that the audit report was clear that vehicles and motorcycles purchased or donated to support the fight against the deadly Ebola virus disease which plunged the Country into a state of panic, are generally in good condition and were properly managed. To date, none of the Local or International donor partners have reported abuse or misuse of vehicles or other assets donated during the health crisis.

The release quotes GSA’s Acting Director General, Atty. J. Cole Bangalu as saying at the moment, the GSA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is assembling Ebola vehicles at the SKD Complex as mandated by the President more than a month ago and this exercise is currently ongoing.

The release concludes by calling on the media to verify all GOL fleet related information with the GSA. While the General Services Agency remains a professional arm of Government involved with the management of GOL assets with transparency and accountability, it is cautioning the media and the public at large to guide against falsities and persuasions that are not only pestilential and diabolical but very inimical and inciteful.

"Naming and Shaming abusers of Government Vehicles"

This vehicle which is assigned to the Ministry of Health was caught carrying sand for the assigned Personnel's private use instead of carrying on Government's errands.

This should sound as a caveat to all abusers of Government vehicles that the General Services Agency team is out and watching.

Please note that any vehicle caught in this act of being abused will be re- assigned by the General Services Agency.
