KRTTI Directress Sorna Sherif Champions Women’s Empowerment as Guest Speaker at International Women’s Day Celebration in Margibi.
The Directress of the Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI), Madam Sorna Sherif, on Monday delivered a powerful message of empowerment and collective responsibility while serving as guest speaker at a program marking the celebration of International Women's Day in Margibi County.
The program, held under the theme “Give to Gain – Supporting Women’s Development,” was organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection through the Office of the County Coordinator in collaboration with women groups across Margibi County and several development partners.
In her keynote address, Madam Sherif emphasized that investing in women remains one of the most powerful ways to advance society. She said the theme of the celebration highlights a fundamental truth that when societies prioritize women’s development, they ultimately secure a stronger and more prosperous future.
“Today’s theme, Give to Gain – Supporting Women’s Development, reminds us of a powerful truth: when we invest in women, we invest in the future of our communities, our nation, and our world,” Madam Sherif stated.
The KRTTI Directress stressed that empowering girls through education remains one of the most impactful investments any nation can make.
According to her, education equips young girls with the knowledge and confidence needed to become responsible leaders, productive citizens, and pillars of their communities.
Madam Sherif noted that when girls are given access to quality education, the benefits extend far beyond the classroom.
“When we give education to girls, we gain an empowered generation,” she explained. “An educated girl grows into a woman who can make informed decisions, contribute to economic growth, and support the education of her own children.”
She used the occasion to call on government institutions, development partners, community leaders, and citizens to work collectively in creating opportunities that allow women and girls to reach their fullest potential.
Madam Sherif further encouraged women across Margibi and Liberia to remain resilient and continue advocating for equal opportunities in education, leadership, and economic participation.
“As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us renew our commitment to building a society where every woman and every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential,” she urged.
The event also recognized several outstanding women for their dedication and contributions toward the empowerment and advancement of women in Margibi County and Liberia at large.
Among those honored were Margibi County District #3 Representative Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh, Madam Julia Blama, Mot. Esther J.S. Clarke, Rev. Mot. Martha Sayklon, and other prominent women whose efforts continue to impact the lives of many women and girls across the county.
The celebration brought together women leaders, community members, youth groups, and stakeholders who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s development in Liberia.
The program concluded with renewed calls for stronger collaboration among government institutions, civil society organizations, and community leaders to ensure that women’s voices remain central in national development efforts.
At the Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI), we remain steadfast in our commitment to shaping the future through quality teacher education.
