Former President George Weah Officially Endorses Liberia’s Historic Bid for a Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council

As Liberia wraps up its campaign for the permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, former President George Weah has officially endorsed the country’s bid, joining former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and many other Liberians in support of this endeavor.

During an interview on Spoon Talk on Thursday evening, former Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah revealed that President Weah has been a long-time advocate for Liberia's bid and has recently made his endorsement public.

Kemayah, who currently serves as Senior Advisor/Chief Envoy to former President Weah, stated that the former president has been actively engaging with other African leaders to rally support for Liberia's campaign. He noted that the initiative to pursue a Security Council seat at the United Nations began during Weah's administration, highlighting his commitment to ensuring Liberia secures the position.

With the vote scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Boakai administration is working to gather support from all stakeholders, including opposition leaders.

Liberia’s bid represents a bold effort to reassert Liberia's historic role on the global stage. Winning this seat would provide Liberia with access to high-level decision-making on critical issues concerning international peace and security.
