The Ministry of Public Works Liberia turns over the Soil Testing Laboratory to TU

Harper - May 31, 2024 - The president of William V.S. Tubman University(TU), Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, alongside the Minister of Public Works, Hon. Roland L Giddings, attended the official ceremony for the handover of the soil laboratory in Pleebo, Maryland County to TU. Previously used for soil testing during the construction of the Harper - Fishtown Highway, the laboratory will now be used to enhance the University's research capabilities in engineering, agriculture, and environmental studies. This transition is expected to bolster local and national development by supplying crucial data for soil management.

Gender Launch National Policy Dialogue Platform

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection under Component 4 of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project today officially launched the National Policy Dialogue Platform.

The Platform aimed to promote cohesive conversation among stakeholders to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Gender Minister Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie rallied stakeholders to continuously engage and champion the cause of gender equality and inclusion of women and marginalized groups.

Also speaking, the National Project Coordinator of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) indicated that the launch of the policy will further enhance legal reforms and strengthen dialogue among stakeholders. She added that the LWEP, which is a 5-year World Bank Funded Project implemented by the Gender Ministry will foster positive social change, and resilient livelihthroughhroa ua gh community-based approach and strengthen institutions to promote gender equality.

International partners including the World Bank, UN Women, UNICEF, UNDP, Embassy of Sweden, Embassy of Ireland, Kvinna Till-Kvinna, and Plan International expressed optimism that the launch of dialogue is timely while pledging their support to enhance discussions around the issue affecting women and fostering the pathway.

Stakeholders at the official launch of the dialogue were drawn from several institutions including NGOs and Civil Society Organizations in Liberia.
