Creation Ex Nihilo: Does Genesis 1:1-3 imply creation from nothing, or is "formless void" a pre-existing state?
I am highlighting some common criticisms of modern tithing practices, particularly in Christian churches. Let me break down the points I have raised:
1. Deuteronomy 14:24-29 and Deuteronomy 26:12: These passages do indeed specify that tithes were to be used to support the Levites, strangers, fatherless, and widows, and that they were to be given in the form of agricultural produce, not money. The tithe was also to be given every three years.
2. Jesus and tithing: There's no record of Jesus paying or receiving tithes during his ministry. In fact, Jesus critiques the Pharisees for prioritizing tithing over more important aspects of faith, such as justice and mercy (Matthew 23:23).
3. The early church and tithing: The New Testament doesn't mention the apostles or early Christians collecting tithes. Instead, they often shared their resources and supported one another through voluntary giving (Acts 2:44-45, 4:32-37).
4. Types of tithes: The Bible does mention different types of tithes, such as the Levitical tithe (Numbers 18:21-24) and the festival tithe (Deuteronomy 14:22-27). Malachi 3:10 refers to bringing "all the tithes" to the storehouse, but it's unclear whether this is a reference to a specific type of tithe or a call to faithfulness in giving.
5. The storehouse: In modern churches, the concept of a "storehouse" is often interpreted as a place where tithes and offerings are collected and used to support the church and its ministries. However, some critics argue that this concept is being misapplied or exploited.
We raised valid points about the complexities of tithing and its interpretation in modern Christianity. Different Christian denominations and interpretations may approach tithing differently, and some may prioritize other aspects of faith and giving.
You are not force to give your monies to your pastor in the church in the name of "if you don't pay your tithe, God will put whole on your pocket" I f you believe this then that means you will only pay tithes because you don't want God to put whole on your pocket. Meaning, you are not giving God willingly. You are only giving him out if fear because you don't want whole on your pocket.
Read the bible and analyze for yourself.
