What is Osteo arthritis?

Arthritis Characterized by erosion of articular cartilage, either primary or
secondary to trauma or other conditions, which become soft, frayed and thinned
with calcification of subchondral bone and out growths of marginal osteophytes.

What is the impact of Osteo arthritis?

Apart form general indisposition resulting form Constant friction / movement
of joints due to excessive physical activities may cause any one or more of the following health problems
â—ŹRestricted movement
â—ŹPain in the affected ioints
â—Ź Bony Swelling around joint margins
â—Ź Cracking noise (Crepitus)
â—Ź Stifness of Short duration
â—Ź Deformity of the affected joints
â—Ź Muscle weakness and wasting

Specific Do's and Don'ts

Do's
â—ŹAdequate rest
â—ŹRegular, slow and gentle exercises
â—Ź Maintenance of posture and flexibility of the involved joints.
â—ŹReduction in weight.
â—ŹMeditate to avoidstress.
â—ŹDiet shoyId be Simple, nutritious and easily digestible.
â—ŹAdamant Creeper, Black gram, Fenugreek, Horse Gram, Onion,Garlic, Ginger, Ladies finger, Pumpkin, Green gram, Elephant Yam, Plantain stem, Radish, Toor Dal Baloon vine leave,etc. should be added in regular diet.
â—ŹAlso, consume milk, eggs, and Spined loach fish, and white goat meat.
â—Ź Fruits like Pomegranate, Mango, Grapes et.

Don'ts
â—ŹPungent and astringent or salty food and Barley etc.
â—ŹAvoid all kinds of tubers, except Elephant yam
â—ŹPeanut, Field beans, Green peas
â—Ź Exposing to to cold atmosphere and consumption cold water, air chilled soft drinks etc.
â—ŹExcessive exertion,awaking at night and sleeping at day, long walks.

Antenatal Care in Siddha Medicine

What activities should be avoided, and what activities should be preferred?

â–  should not sleep in a supine position. It will lead to a torsion of the umbilical cord around the neck. The lateral position is preferable.

â– Should not control stool or urine.

â– Should not do heavy exercise.

â– Should not eat spicy and hot foods.

â– Should not eat low amounts of food. It will lead to stillbirth, abortion, or a weak baby.

â– Should not face any trauma. Because of that, miscarriages will occur.

â– Should not travel by vehicle, which will make passengers more tired.

â– If you interfere in fighting, your baby will get epilepsy.

â–  If the mother is sorrowful, the baby will be afraid, weak, or have a short lifespan.

â– If a mother thinks badly of others, it makes the baby bother others, jealousy, or lascivious.

â– If the mother is sleepy, the baby will be lazy, low-intelligent, and have less appetite.

If the mother consumes alcohol, the child will develop alcoholism and a disordered mental state.

â– If she eats Monitor Lizard meat much, the baby will be affected by kidney disease.

â– If she eats pork too much, it will lead to redness of the eyes, dyspnea, and long and thickened hair on the baby.

â–  If she eats too much, baby will get diabetic, dumb, or obese.

â–  If she eats excess sour, it leads to skin and eye disease.

â–  If she eats salt excessively, it leads to premature aging.

â–  If she eats spicy food excessively, it leads to GIT disease.

â– If she eats bitter excessively, her body becomes weak, dry, and emaciated.

â– If she eats astringent excessively, it leads to blackening of the body, bleeding, and degenerative disease.

■ Generally, diseases will occur according to a mother’s activity and diet. Avoid eating aloevera completely.

â– Avoid frequent intake of bakery products, frozen or canned foods, packaged fruit juices, junk foods like pizza, burgers, noodles, fermented foods, stale food, cold drinks, aerated drinks, chips, and non-vegetarian foods.

â–  Avoid the usage of additive colors.

Purgative therapy in Siddha Medicine

Purgation literally means medically induced elimination of stools, which is widely used in traditional medicine systems to eliminate certain kinds of substances which cannot possibly excreted through sweat glands, lungs, kidneys, stomach etc.

Dietary Regimen During Purgation :

â– Milk, butter milk, rice and hot water only, are to be taken.
â– Salt is best avoided.
â– Avoid drinking cold liquids with your meals.
â– Eat your main meal at noontime , and eat a lighter meal at night.
â– Avoid foods that are deep fried or too heavy.
