VH+POR in eye..👁️

Vitreous Hemorrhage (VH) with Posterior Ocular Rupture (POR) is a serious eye condition, usually caused by trauma, and can threaten vision if not treated quickly.

What it means

Vitreous Hemorrhage (VH)
• Bleeding into the vitreous humor (the clear gel inside the eye).
• Blood blocks light from reaching the retina → vision becomes blurry or dark.

Posterior Ocular Rupture (POR)
• A full-thickness tear in the back (posterior) part of the eyeball.
• Often due to severe blunt or penetrating trauma.
• This is a type of open globe injury (very serious).

⚠️ Causes
• High-impact injuries (road accidents, sports trauma, assaults)
• Sharp object pe*******on
• Sudden increase in eye pressure from blunt force

👁️ Symptoms
• Sudden, severe loss of vision
• Floaters or dark shadows
• Eye pain (may or may not be severe)
• Redness or swelling
• Possible visible deformity of the eye (in severe rupture)

🧪 Diagnosis

Doctors may use:
• Slit-lamp examination
• Ultrasound (B-scan) (if view is blocked by blood)
• CT scan of orbit (to confirm rupture or foreign body)
• Avoid pressure on the eye if rupture is suspected

This is a medical emergency.
Posterior ocular rupture + vitreous hemorrhage can lead to:
• Permanent blindness
• Retinal detachment
• Infection (endophthalmitis)

💉 Treatment

Immediate Management
• Shield the eye (no pressure)
• Avoid eye drops unless prescribed
• Urgent referral to an ophthalmologist

Surgical Treatment
• Primary globe repair surgery (to close rupture)
• Later procedures:
• Vitrectomy (removal of blood from vitreous)
• Retinal repair if needed
🔄 Prognosis
• Depends on:
• Size and location of rupture
• Amount of bleeding
• Speed of treatment
• Posterior ruptures generally have a poorer prognosis than anterior injuries.
🛡️ Prevention
• Wear protective eyewear during risky activities
• Use helmets and safety gear
