Title: Moonlit Sea
Author: Koho Shoda (1871?-1946?)
Year: 1912/1926 c. (woodcut)

This print is among the most evocative of the artist. Everything is wrapped in silence and is built to instill peace and tranquility.

With slight declinations of the color Koho Shoda barely distinguishes the sea and the sky illuminated by the full moon. The boat is a simple silhouette that moves on the surface of the water beyond a natural backdrop made up of thin strands of vegetation.

The first editions of the artist's prints are not known with precision and generally report the decades between 1910 and 1930.

Koho Shoda falls within the "shin-hanga" style that takes up the "ukiyo-e" tradition with an important role entrusted to the publisher, in this case Nishinomiya Yosaku.

Koho Shoda is a virtually unknown artist whose birth and death year are unknown even though he worked mainly in the 20th century.
