Empowering Communities for Inclusive Education in Manthai East 📚🤝

Under the project “BMZ/KNH: Implementation of Inclusive Education in the Northern, Eastern, and Central Provinces of Sri Lanka,” the JSAC successfully conducted a two-day CBO Training Programme on May 19th and 20th, 2026. The sessions brought together 26 active socialists selected from the Manthai East Divisional Secretariat area.

The primary objective of this initiative was to raise awareness, strengthen knowledge, and empower community members to advocate effectively for the rights and needs of Children with Disabilities (CWDs). The training placed a significant focus on vital advocacy tools, including:

* Citizen Voice and Action (CVA): Empowering communities to hold services accountable.
* Right to Information (RTI): Utilizing legal frameworks to ensure social inclusion and transparency.

Through interactive group activities and practical learning, the participants gained a clear understanding of their roles in supporting inclusive education. The training concluded with highly positive feedback, marking a major step forward in enhancing grassroots participation and disability rights within the Manthai East community.

உள்ளடக்கிய கல்வியை மேம்படுத்த மாந்தை கிழக்கில் சமூக மட்ட அமைப்புகளுக்கான விசேட பயிற்சி 📚🤝

"இலங்கையின் வடக்கு, கிழக்கு மற்றும் மத்திய மாகாணங்களில் உட்படுத்தல் கல்வியை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தல்" எனும் BMZ/KNH திட்டத்தின் கீழ், JSAC னால் இரண்டு நாள் விசேட பயிற்சி நெறிமுறை கடந்த 2026 மே 19 மற்றும் 20 ஆகிய திகதிகளில் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டது. மாந்தை கிழக்கு பிரதேச செயலகப் பிரிவில் நடைபெற்ற இப்பயிற்சியில் அப்பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த 26 சமூக ஆர்வலர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

மாந்தை கிழக்கு சமூகத்திற்குள் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிச் சிறுவர்களின் (CWDs) உரிமைகள் மற்றும் தேவைகளுக்காகக் குரல் கொடுப்பதற்கும், அவர்களைப் பலப்படுத்துவதற்குமான விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்துவதே இப்பயிற்சியின் முக்கிய நோக்கமாகும். இதன் போது பின்வரும் முக்கிய விடயங்கள் குறித்து விசேட கவனம் செலுத்தப்பட்டது:

* குடிமக்களின் குரல் மற்றும் செயல்பாடு (Citizen Voice and Action): சமூக மேம்பாட்டிற்காகக் குரல் கொடுத்தல்.
* தகவலறியும் உரிமைச் சட்டம் (RTI): சமூக உள்ளடக்கம் மற்றும் நீதியை உறுதிப்படுத்துவதற்கான ஒரு முக்கிய கருவியாகப் பயன்படுத்துதல்.

கலந்துரையாடல்கள் மற்றும் குழுச் செயற்பாடுகள் மூலம் நடைபெற்ற இப்பயிற்சியில், உட்படுத்தல் கல்வியை ஆதரிப்பதிலும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிச் சிறுவர்களின் நல்வாழ்வை மேம்படுத்துவதிலும் தமக்குள்ள பொறுப்புகளைப் பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் தெளிவாகப் புரிந்துகொண்டனர். மாந்தை கிழக்கு சமூக மட்டத்தில் உள்ளடக்கிய கல்வி மற்றும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளின் உரிமைகளை வலுப்படுத்துவதில் இந்த வேலைத்திட்டம் ஒரு காத்திரமான பங்களிப்பை வழங்கியுள்ளது.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka on Sunday (26) celebrated the 15th anniversary of American Corner Jaffna (ACJ), highlighting its longstanding role in connecting communities in Northern Sri Lanka with the United States through programs focused on education, innovation, and American values.

According to the US Embassy, the new “Freedom 250 Pavilion,” part of the global Freedom 250 initiative commemorating 250 years of American independence, was also inaugurated during the event.

Established in 2011 in partnership with the Jaffna Social Action Centre, American Corner Jaffna was created as a platform for direct engagement with local communities, offering opportunities to learn about the United States while building skills in critical thinking, leadership, and innovation.

Launched in the post-conflict period, the Corner has played a key role in connecting emerging leaders in Northern Sri Lanka with ideas, resources, and opportunities rooted in American experience and perspectives.

The Freedom 250 Pavilion expands ACJ’s capacity to host interactive programs and community events, reinforcing the Corner’s role as a dynamic space for collaboration, dialogue, and learning.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Menaka Nayyar said: “American Corner Jaffna reflects the United States’ commitment to sharing American values, culture, and ideas with the people of Northern Sri Lanka. On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate 250 years of independence—a milestone that highlights our founding ideals and partnerships around the world, including here in Jaffna. Through the new Freedom 250 Pavilion and our programs, we invite the community to engage with the United States and learn more about our history, society, and innovation.”

In 2025 alone, ACJ hosted nearly 400 programs, reaching more than 10,000 participants. Located at No. 23, Athiyady Road, Nallur, Jaffna, American Corner Jaffna provides free access to resources on the United States, English language learning, educational advising, and skills-based programming.

As part of the "Thoughts of Women 2026" event held on yesterday (24 April 2026) at Saraswathy Hall, Jaffna, JSAC took a special moment to honor four dedicated women staff members serving as Wardens of our Safe Houses (Nambikkai Illam) in Jaffna and Mullaitivu.

Since 2003, JSAC has stood as the only NGO providing dedicated shelter services through our Safe Houses (Nambikkai Illam) in both the Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs (MOWACA). For over 23 years, these facilities have served as a vital sanctuary for women and their dependent children surviving Gender-Based Violence (GBV), domestic abuse, and exploitation.

The tireless dedication of these four women ensures that survivors do not just find a roof over their heads—they find a path to healing, dignity, and a return to normalcy. By honoring their service, we reaffirm our commitment to being a shield for the vulnerable during our 25th anniversary year. 2026 ஏப்ரல் 24 அன்று யாழ்ப்பாணம் சரஸ்வதி மண்டபத்தில் நடைபெற்ற "பெண்களின் சிந்தனைகளிலிருந்து...." நிகழ்வின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, யாழ்ப்பாணம் மற்றும் முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ள எமது Safe House (நம்பிக்கை இல்லம்) களின் நான்கு பெண் இல்லப் பொறுப்பாளர்கள் (Wardens) விசேடமாகக் கௌரவிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

2003 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல், பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுவர் விவகார அமைச்சுடன் (MOWACA) இணைந்து யாழ்ப்பாணம் மற்றும் முல்லைத்தீவு ஆகிய இரு மாவட்டங்களிலும் இத்தகைய Safe House (நம்பிக்கை இல்லம்) சேவைகளைத் தொடர்ந்து வழங்கி வரும் ஒரேயொரு அரச சார்பற்ற நிறுவனம் (NGO) யாழ் சமூகச் செயற்பாட்டு மையம் (JSAC) என்பதில் நாம் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறோம்.

கடந்த 23 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக, வன்முறைகளால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்கள் மற்றும் அவர்களைச் சார்ந்திருக்கும் குழந்தைகளுக்கும் (Women and their dependent children) பாதுகாப்பான புகலிடத்தையும், அவர்களின் உளவியல் மற்றும் வாழ்வியல் மீட்சிக்கான நம்பிக்கையையும் எமது இல்லங்கள் வழங்கி வருகின்றன.

எமது 25-ஆவது ஆண்டு நிறைவு காலத்தில் இவர்களின் சேவையைப் பாராட்டுவதுடன், வடபுலப் பெண்களின் பாதுகாப்பிற்காக நாம் முன்னெடுக்கும் இந்தப் பணிகளில் தொடர்ந்து கைகோர்க்குமாறு எமது பங்காளர்கள் மற்றும் நன்கொடையாளர்களை அன்புடன் அழைக்கிறோம்.
