20 Years of Sunera!

“We realised that our work was having a huge impact
on the lives of young people. They were developing
physically, mentally, creatively, and socially,” says
Sunethra. “They were being accepted by a society
which was now applauding their talents instead of
shutting them out.”
Nearly 21 years ago, Sunethra Bandaranaike
embarked on what was to be a transformative and
beautiful journey, pioneering the Sunera Foundation.
It would change the lives of many families forever.
“The initial stages were challenging,” says Sunera.
“We struggled for support, funds, acceptance and
even clear direction. We were inspired not to give up
and to keep going.”
Two decades later, the community the team has built
is thriving, sparking change around the country.
“This book is a celebration of our 20-year journey.”

As Sunera enters its 21st year, we’re launching
Wings: The Sunera Story, a compilation of our
incredible journey and the lives the Foundation has
touched.
