A Serious Reflection: Colombo vs Ampara

Alhamdulillah! 221 Muslim students selected for Medicine (10.6%).

But a critical concern emerges:
• Ampara: 48 students
• Colombo: Only 10 students

Population (2022):
• Ampara: 282,746
• Colombo: 271,701
Almost equal population — but a huge gap in results.

What is the Issue?
Colombo has:
• Better schools
• More resources
• Strong leadership & organizations
Yet, outcomes are weaker.

This shows: Resources alone are not enough.

It is also important to look beyond the surface numbers.

Among the 10 students selected from Colombo District:
• Are they truly native students of Colombo?
• Or are they students who moved or registered through Colombo for examination purposes?

This deeper analysis is essential to understand the real ground reality and avoid misleading conclusions.

Key Message

This is not blame, but a wake-up call.

We need:
Strategic education planning
Mentorship & early guidance
Stronger parental involvement
Unity among institutions.

A Humble Appeal
To leaders, educators, and policymakers—especially in Colombo:
Let us act seriously and collectively.

This is purely an analysis. I am not addressing holistic education here. However, as Muslims and responsible citizens of Sri Lanka, we must also focus on shaping students into individuals of strong moral values.
If a person cannot demonstrate good character towards their own parents and family, how can we expect them to fulfill their responsibility towards the country?

May Allah guide us to better outcomes.
