𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭

Just a few days ago, during the 𝑉𝑒𝑠𝑎𝑘 season, we welcomed hundreds of visitors to our "𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩 | 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭" community initiative.

People enjoyed a free ice cream to cool themselves, while taking home a fruit tree sapling to help cool the planet. What made this initiative even more meaningful was that the saplings distributed (in recycled paper bags) were largely underutilized fruit tree species, carefully selected to encourage biodiversity, food security, and greener urban spaces.

Today, as we celebrate 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we are proud to share the impact behind these smiles.

A total of 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 representing nine species were distributed across Colombo. Based on internationally accepted IPCC carbon sequestration methodologies and conservative survival estimates, these trees have the potential to sequester approximately 𝟏𝟕𝟑.𝟕𝟏 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐎₂ 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝟐𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬. Beyond carbon sequestration, they will provide shade, support biodiversity, produce nutritious fruits, and contribute to cooler, greener communities throughout the city.

What started as a simple 𝑉𝑒𝑠𝑎𝑘 Dansala has become a long-term investment in people, communities, and the environment.
