In every Hindu temple, also called a kovil, the gopuram is the pyramidal structure, often very colorful, that symbolizes the entrance to the temple complex. The gopuram is a symbol of the Dravidian style.
In the temple I frequent very often, the gopuram was demolish to build a brand new one made of granite, which will have the unique feature of not being colored. The work is extensive, and patience is required. Each stone block is hand-carved, and the architect ensures that the assembly remains harmonious.
