🔵 Seminar Talk 3 | Department of Mathematics 🔵
Our third math talk of the semester will be held on Monday, July 06, 2026.
We are delighted to welcome Pasindu Kalhara Epa, a PhD student at the University of Cincinnati, USA (BSc Mathematics Honours, University of Colombo), who will deliver a talk on:
"The Gromov–Hausdorff Convergence"
Sometimes it is useful to think of a "space of metric spaces," treating two spaces as equivalent when they are isometric. The talk will introduce the Hausdorff distance between closed and bounded subsets of a metric space, show how this leads to the Gromov–Hausdorff distance on compact metric spaces, and conclude with the Gromov Compactness Theorem, a fundamental result in the theory of Gromov–Hausdorff convergence.

The Department of Mathematics successfully conducted the Temporary Staff Training Workshop 2026 at the department seminar room.

A heartfelt thanks to the Batch of 1976 for donating a high-powered gaming notebook to the Department of Mathematics for AI research. The ceremony “Donations to Our Alma Mater” was held on 21st April 2026 at the Faculty Board Room.
