A very productive and insightful lunch debate was held by the Board of the International Confederation of Lebanese Business People with H.E. Tarek Mitri, Vice Prime Minister of Lebanon. Our discussion touched on Lebanon’s key economic concerns and priorities, the delicate relationship with Syria, the latest internal tensions, and the urgent challenges of reconstruction and recovery.

A very productive and enlightening board meeting of the International Confederation of the Lebanese Business People (MIDEL).
We reviewed the latest developments on the local, regional, and international levels. We emphasized the urgent need to prepare ourselves to play an active role in the massive reconstruction project of Syria. We also called on political leaders to take bold and courageous decisions regarding the restructuring of Lebanon’s financial sector — without which sustainable growth cannot be restored. Every delay is worsening the losses of depositors, weakening the private sector, and deepening the economic crisis. Lebanon cannot afford to wait until after the legislative elections to act.

A very productive lunch debate and transparent discussion between the board of the International Confederation of the Lebanese Businesspeople (MIDEL) and the UN Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Special Coordinator for Lebanon. We all agreed that the time has come to live in peace in the Holy Land and to engage in indirect talks—with the support of the United Nations- with all relevant stakeholders, for a peaceful future for our country. We are ready to rebuild on strong foundations and pillars that can withstand the test of time, free from the risk of future demolition and destruction.
