Open Map Lebanon

Hi everyone - particularly those of you currently living in Lebanon! 🇱🇧 We’ve been having some conversations around Solar Energy and would really appreciate it if you could complete this short anonymous survey🌞🔋:
Our initial aim is to assess people’s awareness on & interest in solar energy in Lebanon, share the data publicly and reach out to solution providers depending on the responses that we get.
We’d love to know what you think - even if you can’t take the survey / aren’t based in Lebanon atm 🙂 So please share your thoughts with us, thank you!

Interested in understanding the socio-economic impact of the Beirut blast on surrounding neighborhoods? Check out some work the UNDP Accelerator Labs team in collaboration with Matthew Ng, Lilian Abou Zeki, and Melda Salhab from our community:
https://www.lb.undp.org/content/lebanon/en/home/accelerator-labs/socio-economic-impact-assessment/households---vulnerability-and-accessibility.html
Their insightful study offers a suggestion as to how Beirut’s neighborhood could look like when taking into account the population and the city’s street network. ‬
‪The exploration is based on a compilation of spatial data processing techniques including population analysis, u‬rban morphology, & accessibility analysis.
‪Note - under ‘Households Level’ in the menu:
• The ‘Vulnerability’ section with the interactive map data story highlights which neighborhoods are the most vulnerable from a household or a small business perspective.
• The ‘Accessibility’ section provides interactive visualizations of accessibility to hospitals and schools in Beirut.
• The ‘Neighborhood Insights’ section allows you to interactively explore the data for Medawar, Achrafieh, Bachoura, Zoukak el-Blatt, and Remeil.
• The ‘What defines a neighborhood’ section suggests an alternative to our neighborhood boundaries by using machine learning on street network and population data.
Open Map Lebanon is inviting its community to an informal roundtable discussion, with featured guests Carole Alsharabati (IMPACT Lebanon) and Sara Chang (Public Health Professional).

A couple of snaps from Workshop III - OpenStreetMap Fundamentals, with Marc Farra & Majd Al-Shihabi
In this session, we learned the basics of OpenStreetMap, we added a building to OSM, downloaded a map of our neighbourhood, and visualized map information from Lebanon such as accessible places, coffee shops in Beirut and the wildfire response.
Thank you all for joining us - we hope you enjoyed it!
