Instead, the large firms want to increase the offshoring of these jobs and Government is assisting them by agreeing that permits will not be paid for lawyers hired overseas by the large firms?

In other words, a law firm could replace a Caymanian lawyer (which could be your child or another close family member) with one overseas, at the reduced cost in wages, no work permit fee (or even advertising it locally), no pension or health insurance contributions and without any contribution of that individual to contribute in any way to our economy.

The right thing for Government is a no-brainer for me!

Alden has become a talking head saying if we don’t get this bill passed Cayman will get blacklisted; the suggestion being that unless the Bill gets accepted in its current form as he now approved it - and no matter how unfair it is now or to future Caymanian children entering the workforce - he will not support it. Note the above objects we strive for are has nothing to do with not passing a law. We support modern legislation which meets with international law requirements and believe that objective can be met while remaining fair and acting in the interest of Caymanians.

Once this goes through we might as well shut up and call it a day!
