The REACH ME Corporation Salutes Mr. Delroy Huggins during the Month of July.
The corporation is highlighting Men in Nevis, between ages 18-40 years.
Profile of Delroy “Delly Ranks” Huggins
Nevisian Soca Champion and Positive Voice for the Community
Born and raised in Rawlins Village, Gingerland, Nevis, Delroy widely known as “Delly Ranks” Huggins has emerged as one of the most influential and recognizable soca artistes from St. Kitts and Nevis. Recognised for his energetic performances, smooth vocals, and crowd-engaging stage presence, Delly Ranks has built a reputation as a dynamic performer who blends the rhythmic flow of Groovy Soca with the electrifying energy of Power Soca.
Delly’s love for music began at a very young age. Growing up in a musically inclined family, he was surrounded by the sounds of traditional Nevisian music. His late father was a well-known musician who played several instruments including the guitar, banjo, and drums, and was actively involved in the local music scene. His mother also shared musical talent through singing in the church choir. This environment naturally nurtured Delly’s musical interest and creativity from childhood. As a young boy, Delly and his cousins formed makeshift backyard bands using everyday household items such as ironing boards, fans, and old cement buckets to create rhythms and melodies. These early experiences not only strengthened his passion for music but also helped develop the natural rhythm and performance style that would later define his career.
Delly initially began his musical journey as a drummer, performing with local groups including an iron band known as the Jungle Warriors Iron Band before eventually transitioning to singing. His vocal talent quickly gained attention, and after completing secondary school he began to focus seriously on developing his career as a soca artiste. He later joined the popular Kore Band, one of Nevis’ well-known entertainment groups, where he further honed his craft as a performer and vocalist. Through this platform he gained valuable experience performing locally and regionally, building a strong fan base while representing the culture of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Delly officially stepped into the competitive soca arena in the early 2010s and quickly rose through the ranks of the industry. His powerful voice, creative lyrics, and vibrant stage performances have earned him numerous titles and accolades throughout his career.
Among his most notable achievements are:
2013 St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival Groovy Soca Monarch
2016, 2018, and 2019 Road March Champion
2016, 2017, and 2023 Nevis Culturama Power & Groovy Soca Monarch
2024 Groovy Soca Monarch
In 2016, Delly Ranks made history in the Nevis Culturama Soca Monarch Competition by becoming the first artiste to capture both the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch titles in the same year, demonstrating his versatility and dominance in the soca arena. He later repeated similar achievements, solidifying his place among the Federation’s most accomplished soca performers. His success extends beyond national competitions. Delly Ranks has also represented St. Kitts and Nevis on regional stages, performing at international events such as CARIFESTA, where he delivered high-energy performances alongside other Caribbean artistes. His ability to command the stage and engage audiences has made him a staple performer within the Caribbean soca circuit.
Despite his musical achievements, Delly remains deeply committed to using his influence to inspire and uplift others—particularly the youth of his community. He strongly believes that artistes have a responsibility to positively impact society and often encourages young people to pursue their dreams while making responsible life choices. Guided by his favourite quote from Winston Churchill, ““Where there is great power there is great responsibility, where there is less power there is less responsibility, and where there is no power there can, I think, be no responsibility.” Delly is certainly on his way, transforming the world one song at a time.
Today, Delly Ranks continues to write, record, and perform music while proudly representing the culture and spirit of Nevis and the wider Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Through his passion, talent, and dedication, he continues to make his mark on the Caribbean music scene—transforming lives and spreading joy one song at a time.
