Edwin Abonyo, Chairman of the National Museums of Kenya (NMK), hosted the media launch for the 1st International Investment Conference and Trade Fair on Indigenous Knowledge Intellectual Assets (IKIA) 2026.
The IKIA 2026 initiative is a strategic effort to monetize Kenya's ancestral wisdom and integrate it into the global market.
Conference dates scheduled to take place from April 21–23, 2026.
The main conference will be held in Murang’a County.
The platform aims to connect indigenous knowledge holders with global investors to commercialize traditional medicine, food systems, and technologies.
The project has already been rolled out in 13 pilot counties, with plans to expand to all 47 counties to document and digitize cultural intellectual assets.
The launch was supported by the Council of Governors and attended by high-ranking officials, including Murang'a Deputy Governor Stephen Munania.
This initiative aligns with Kenya's Vision 2030 and the government’s focus on Heritage-Based Enterprises to drive inclusive economic growth.
