1963: Jomo Kenyatta met Mau Mau General Baimungi Marete.

26 January 1965: General Baimungi Marete and Chui were killed by government security forces.

Baimungi opposed Kenyatta's post-independence land policies, arguing that Mau Mau veterans had been denied the land they fought for while former colonial loyalists benefited. His continued resistance and growing influence were seen as a challenge to the new government's authority.

After their deaths, their bodies were publicly displayed at Kinoru Stadium as a warning against further dissent.
