DAILY FACT FILE: A stimulant. For centuries, khat, the fresh young leaves of the Catha edulis shrub, have been consumed where the plant is cultivated, primarily in East Africa and the Arabian peninsula. There, chewing khat predates the use of coffee and is used in a similar social context. It also qualifies as a drug due to it's active ingredient (cathinone). Khat, like any other social drug out there, if abused, can have some neg*tive effects, otherwise, khat is a choice stimulant for millions around the globe.

DAILY FACT FILE: Khat is now crossing cultural divides and becoming a drug of choice for an increasing number of young people in the UK. On a recent survey, most users said that they prefer khat mostly because, you can get a natural 'high' swifter and also one can manage consumption, they also hinted the fact that khat makes one's mind more alert and aids in 'over-clocking' through the hours.
