CONSUMER RIGHTS OFFENDERS SUSPECTS IN COURTS

FIVE Consumer Rights offenders have this morning been arraigned in Courts following complaints by members of the public of rampant sales of expired products; an offence punishable and prosecutable under the Consumer Protection Act no. 46 of 2012 Laws of Kenya.

The Consumer Protection Organization lodged complains with the National Police Service through the Kenya Police Service in Uasin Gishu and the matter was taken up by Sub- County Police Kitale who swiftly seized the expired goods and apprehended the offenders.

In the company of officials who identified the said premises, the Police apprehended the perpetrators who were charged in Kitale Law Courts on the 12th of November 2025.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya through Ms. Judith Ayuma did not object the suspects plea and one was convicted on his own plea of guilt and fined kshs 70,000 with the exbits being the expired products set for destruction while the remaining four plea were deffered to a later date. The Consumer Protection Act gives penalty of up to kshs 1 million if found guilty.
