Congratulations, Kenya. We are Launching the Greatest Economic Empowerment Program Since Devolution.

I fully support mandatory vehicle inspections.

Not because of road safety.

Because of job creation.

Think about the beneficiaries.

The inspectors now have a chance to become motivational speakers:
"This brake system has potential... but it needs another inspection."

Traffic police can finally stop asking, "Where are you coming from?"
Now they can ask,
"Have you been inspected?"

Brokers have just received a new national internship program.

Garages are already warming up their diagnostic machines like surgeons before an operation.

Photocopy shops are preparing for record profits.

Even your cousin who has never opened a bonnet will soon introduce himself as an "NTSA compliance consultant."

This is what we call an inclusive economy.

One car. Ten people earning from it.

Imagine the excitement.

You arrive convinced your car is in perfect condition.
Inspectors become the gatekeepers of compliance.
Traffic police acquire another document to ask motorists to produce during routine checks.
Garages experience a surge in customers seeking pre-inspection repairs

Brokers emerge almost overnight, promising to "help you navigate the process."
We've always complained that networking is dead.

Now every inspection centre might become a networking hub.

Road safety is important. Nobody argues with that. Unsafe vehicles should absolutely be fixed.

But here's my humble prayer:

May the only thing being inspected be the vehicle.

Not your patience. Not your wallet.

Not your willingness to "facilitate the process. If the shortcuts become more valuable than safety, then we'll discover something remarkable:

The vehicle wasn't the one that needed the inspection.

The incentives were.
