In a major policy shift, Kenya is rolling out enhanced protections and opportunities for its diaspora. Key reforms include cutting passport processing times for emigrating workers from three months to three days and deregistering over 600 rogue labor agencies. The government is now exclusively deploying workers to countries with formal bilateral agreements to prevent exploitation.

The announcement was made during a diaspora engagement in Doha, Qatar, where officials also outlined plans to secure higher-skilled jobs abroad and create new financial instruments, like a diaspora bond, to make remittances and investments cheaper and easier, thereby strengthening the diaspora's contribution to the national economy.
