I never knew I could unpin her chat.

For two years, her name stayed glued at the top of my WhatsApp like a sacred place no one else could touch. Morning texts, midnight calls, random voice notes about nothing — she was my routine, my peace, my person.
I loved her in the kind of way people write captions about. The kind that makes your friends laugh at how soft you've become. I believed she was my soulmate. Not because she said all the right things, but because she made life feel lighter.
We traveled together whenever we could save enough money. Diani became our little escape. White sand, coconut drinks, matching slippers, blurry sunset photos she forced me to retake twenty times because “the lighting wasn’t right.”

I still remember one evening at the beach. She rested her head on my shoulder and whispered,
“Even when we grow old, promise me we’ll keep coming back here.”
And like a fool in love, I promised.
I trusted her completely. That dangerous kind of trust where you stop questioning things because your heart already signed the contract before your brain could read the terms.

Then came the day everything shattered.
We were at her place one Saturday afternoon. She was rushing to finish some work and asked me to help send a few documents from her phone to her colleague. It felt normal. Comfortable. The kind of comfort couples have when passwords stop mattering.
She unlocked the phone and handed it to me casually before disappearing into the kitchen.
I opened WhatsApp.
The documents were in a chat she had mentioned earlier, so I searched the name. Just as I was about to forward the files, a message banner slid across the top of the screen.
“Last night was amazing. I miss you already ❤️”

My stomach tightened instantly.
At first, I convinced myself I misunderstood. Maybe it was an old friend. Maybe it was a joke. Maybe there was context I didn’t know.
But curiosity mixed with fear is a deadly combination.
I tapped the message.
The chat opened.
And in that moment, my entire relationship turned into a movie I no longer recognized.
Photos.
Inside jokes.
Hotel receipts.
Messages sent while she was literally on vacation with me in Diani.
I scrolled with shaking hands while my chest burned hotter with every swipe.
There was one message that finished me completely.
She had sent him a photo we took together at the beach. The same one I had posted with the caption “My forever.”
Under it, she texted him:
“He suspects nothing 😂”

I swear something inside me died quietly right there.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
Just… silently.
The kind of pain that makes the room suddenly feel unfamiliar.
I sat there frozen, hearing plates move in the kitchen while my whole reality collapsed in my hands.
When she came back, she smiled and asked,
“Did you send them?”
I looked at her for a few seconds. The same face I once imagined introducing to my future children. The same eyes I trusted blindly.
And all I could think was:
Who are you?
I didn’t shout.
I didn’t throw the phone.
I didn’t even cry.
I simply placed the phone on the table, picked up my car keys, and left.
That night, I stared at our chat for hours. Thousands of messages. Years of memories. Pinned at the very top like it still meant something.
Then for the first time in two years…
I unpinned her chat.
And somehow, that hurt more than blocking her.
