SPEAKER COMMITTS KITUI COUNTY ANNUAL BUDGET ESTIMATES FOR 2026/2027 FY TO THE COUNTY BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE

The Speaker of the Kitui County Assembly, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, this afternoon committed the Proposed Kitui County Annual Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2026/2027 to the County Budget and Appropriations Committee for consideration, in accordance with Section 131 of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, as read together with Standing Order No. 186.

On May 12, 2026, through Communication No. 24 of 2026, the Speaker directed that the Annual Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2026/2027 be returned to the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Economic Planning and Revenue Management for rectification and compliance with the law.

According to the Speaker's communication, the concerns raised in Communication No. 20 of 2026 have since been addressed. The Speaker further urged the County Budget and Appropriations Committee to continue engaging the CECM for Finance, Economic Planning and Revenue Management to amicably resolve any outstanding issues.

The County Budget and Appropriations Committee is expected to subject the estimates to public participation pursuant to Article 196(b) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 as read together with Section 115 of the County Governments Act, 2012, and take into account the recommendations of the Sectoral Committees before submitting its findings to the House for approval.

Subsequently, the House adjourned its sittings with effect from today, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to allow Members of the County Assembly to undertake consultations with the County Executive on the Proposed Kitui County Annual Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2026/2027, conduct public participation, and participate in the sectoral consideration of the Proposed Kitui County Annual Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2026/2027. The House is scheduled to resume its sittings on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 9.00 a.m.
