WETANGULA:JIRONGO’S DEATH AFFECTED ME DEEPLY.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has distanced himself from social media claims and attacks over the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.

Wetang’ula asked security agencies to carry out thorough investigations to establish whether the accident that killed Jirongo was planned.

He described Jirongo as a close friend and said his death affected him deeply.

Wetang’ula spoke on Tuesday during the send-off ceremony of the former Cabinet minister in Lumakanda, Lugari.

“I was in Kampala on December 6 when Jirongo called me. I told him we would meet after I returned. On December 12, we met in Karen and discussed many issues,” said Wetang’ula.

He said he was shocked to learn the following morning that Jirongo had been involved in a fatal accident.

Wetang’ula said Jirongo was very open and honest.

“When he had no money, he would face you and ask for help. When he later had money, he would tell you, ‘I have Sh2 million, take one and I keep one.’ That is the kind of person Jirongo was,” he said.

He also revealed that Jirongo funded his homecoming ceremony after he was nominated as a Member of Parliament in 1992.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta described Jirongo as a man who had the potential to become President of Kenya.
