Agadir Technical Unit

With the support of TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission, https://ec.europa.eu/neighbourhood-enlargement/funding-and-technical-assistance/taiex_en) an expert mission on trade in services was organized October 26th, 2021, virtually for the benefit of Morocco.
This event is the first of series of expert missions to be organized in the three other Member States (Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia) as well as in the acceding countries (Palestine and Lebanon).
The objective of the expert mission is to assist the MS in identifying the service sectors of priority and provide capacity building in order to enable member States for drafting their initial offers especially within the Agadir Agreement.
The opening remarks were addressed by Mr. Mohammed Benjelloun, Director of International Trade Relations at the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the Kingdom of Morocco, and head of the Moroccan Focal Point for the Agadir Agreement ([http://www.agadiragreement.org)]www.agadiragreement.org) Ms. Matilde Ceravolo, Head of Section, Economic Competitiveness, Environment and Infrastructure, Delegation of the European Union to Morocco and Mr. Youssef Trifa, Executive Director of the Agadir Technical Unit.
The experts Dr. Hein Roelfsema and Dr. Hildegunn Kyvik Nordås have presented insight as regard to the potential of trade in services for economic development in Morocco. The best practices, from OECD and World Bank cases, on data collection on services trade and restrictions were shared and the difficulty of accessing information discussed. A focus on sectoral trade-in services for Morocco and sectors with comparative advantage as regard to international trade were provided.
The Agadir Member States have recently agreed on the final draft of a framework agreement for liberalization of services and the event represents an important milestone for the Agadir member states cooperation toward a wider regional integration.
