The prestigious Jamaica Derby wasn’t always the 12-furlong test of stamina we know today. Originally contested over 10 furlongs, the distance was increased to 12 furlongs in 1931, adding an extra challenge and cementing its status as one of Jamaica’s most demanding Triple Crown races.
