Political newcomer Tina Palmer has defeated former Chief Minister John Le Fondré in the race to become Constable of St Lawrence.

Elsewhere, more Constable results are being declared as the picture of Jersey's next States Assembly begins to emerge.

Despite clashes between candidates, the 2nd Senatorial election campaign meeting at St Mary, held on the 22nd October 1981, had its lighter moments - none more so than when Mrs Mary McCarthy knocked over a glass of water while speaking about the flooding of Queen's Valley!. Senators Ralph Vibert and John Le Marquand and Deputy John Rothwell certainly saw the joke.
