02/04/2026
The European Training Foundation (ETF) is seeking to establish a reserve list of talented trainees who are keen to contribute to a wide range of activities across the agency.
If you are eager to grow, bring fresh ideas and work collaboratively in dynamic and multi-cultural teams, these traineeships offer an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful experience while developing valuable skills.
Applications are open until 22 April 2026 via the ETF website (Vacancies section).
As discussions unfold at the EU Social Forum, one message is clear: skills are central to Europe’s future.
In the latest episode of our interview series, the ETF Director Pilvi Torsti speaks with Manuela Geleng, Director for Jobs and Skills at the European Commission (DG EMPL), about how Europe can respond to rapidly changing labour markets.
Their conversation explores some of the key questions shaping Europe’s skills agenda today:
🔹Why skills shortages are becoming one of the most pressing challenges for European labour markets
🔹How the Union of Skills aims to better connect education and employment systems
🔹The importance of lifelong learning, with the EU target of 60% adult participation in training by 2030
🔹Why stronger cooperation between institutions, companies and social partners is essential to deliver real change
A key takeaway from the discussion: Europe’s skills challenge cannot be addressed by education or employment policy alone. It requires cooperation across systems, sectors and countries.

This week in Turin, 35 representatives of Ukraine’s vocational education system are working with the European Training Foundation and Enabel on Centres of Vocational Excellence, a key EU priority under Erasmus+
These centres bring together schools, companies and local partners to deliver high-quality skills and support regional development.
For many participants, vocational education is not just reform: it is a way to prepare for reconstruction after the war and move closer to the European Union.
