The article entitled “Application of Structure from Motion Techniques Using Historical Aerial Images, Orthomosaics, and Aerial LiDAR Point Cloud Datasets for the Investigation of Debris Flow Source Areas” is now freely available in the Remote Sensing journal. The research exploits the potentialities of the Structure from Motion to compute three-dimensional models of an alpine basin. Several sets of parameters (GCP number and placement, scanning resolution, co-registration...) are handled to determine the optimal processing approach. The models’ time series (~80 years) is then used for multitemporal comparisons aimed at long-term sediment dynamics analysis and hazard evaluation. The chance of taking advantage of archival/historical data to obtain, even if semi-quantitative, data is a key factor in data-scarce environments like mountain ranges.
