Casa Vacanze Pio IX Rome

124 gradini di marmo antichissimo di spoglio, ricavati forse da ciò che rimaneva del Tempio di Serapide al Quirinale, conducono sulla sommità settentrionale del colle capitolino dove sorge Santa Maria in Aracoeli. L’imponente scalinata venne costruita nel XIV secolo come ringraziamento alla Vergine per aver salvato la città dalla peste.

124 steps of ancient marble, probably come from the remains of Temple of Serapis on the Quirinal Hill, lead to the northern summit of the Capitoline Hill. Here stands the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli and the imposing staircase was built in the 14th century as a thanksgiving to the Virgin for having saved the city from the plague.
