Incredibile ma vero: nel bel mezzo della Valle dei Templi, una delle zone più aride e calde d'Italia, esiste un giardino che fiorisce da 2500 anni.

Stiamo parlando del Giardino della Kolymbethra, un'oasi verde che sembra impossibile in quel paesaggio brullo. Ma come può esistere una vegetazione così rigogliosa in condizioni così estreme?

Il segreto è nascosto sottoterra. Nel V secolo avanti Cristo, il tiranno greco Terone fece progettare un sistema incredibile: una rete di gallerie e acquedotti ipogei che ancora oggi alimenta questo angolo di paradiso.

Piccola precisazione storica: gli agrumi che vediamo oggi non erano coltivati dai Greci, ma arrivarono molti secoli dopo con gli Arabi. Però l'oasi esisteva già, rigogliosa di olivi, mandorli e altre piante mediterranee.

Pazzesco pensare che una tecnologia di 2500 anni fa continui a funzionare perfettamente, trasformando il deserto in giardino. L'ingegno umano non finisce mai di stupire.
