Many people believe that simply attending classes is enough to become a good dancer.

The truth?
After years, many dancers stay at the exact same level.

The problem is rarely talent.

More often, it’s because:

* you don’t practice outside of class
* you dance with the same people all the time
* you avoid mistakes… instead of using them to grow

🔎 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗦

Everything starts with a solid foundation.

Make sure you’re learning from qualified instructors and that you truly understand the fundamentals:
basic step, side step, right and left turns.

Learn to listen to the music.

Whenever you hear something you don’t understand, ask your instructor.

Start listening to salsa daily.
Create a playlist and play it while driving, working, or during your day.

This will train your ear, improve your musicality, and help you recognize rhythms and instruments.

Also, try to understand the feeling and meaning behind the songs — even if you don’t speak Spanish fluently.

And most importantly: go social dancing.

🎓 𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦

Don’t overlook details during class.

If something isn’t clear, ask again — and again — until it truly makes sense to you.

A good instructor should help you leave class with clarity, not confusion.

If you still struggle, it doesn’t necessarily mean the instructor isn’t good.
Learning is subjective — sometimes it’s just about finding the explanation that works for you.

Great instructors know how to explain the same concept in different ways.

If you really want to improve, you need exposure.

Dancing with people better than you is essential — even if it feels uncomfortable at first.

That’s where real growth happens.

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

Mistakes are part of the process: you try, fail, adjust, and improve.

Over time, you’ll develop your own style — not just repeat patterns you learned in class.

Salsa alone includes different styles, such as:

* Cuban salsa
* LA/NY style (linear salsa)

Don’t limit yourself.

Explore, experiment, and discover what truly fits you.

Be careful with people who create divisions between styles — this world grows through openness, not limitations.
