Here we are in , to conduct structural tests on the curious Sfintii Arhangheli Mihail si Gavril church originally built in late 16th century! It suffered several earthquakes in its lifetime, and hosts several non-original reparations including the enmeshment of a reinforced concrete frame dating to the 1980s. Our tests included:
- Core drilling on RC structure
- Rebar covermeter analysis, to determine the positioning and frequency of rebars inside of the R.C. frame,
- Double flatjack tests in order to determine the mechanical characteristics of the masonry walls,
- Sonic tests as an additional indicator to understand location-based stiffness variations based on the principle of different sonic propagation through voids and solids,
- Video-endoscopy for the inspections regarding wall stratigraphy,
- Infrared thermography to detect hidden structures inside of the built fabric,
- Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPRS) to localize the rebars inside of R.C. structures as well as to detect invisible problems like humidity,
- Dynamic test on tensile rods to determine the status quo tensile load acting on the rods.

The wide array of the tests serves to better simulate the seismic response(s) of the building which is expected to be complicated, stemming from its composite structure (reinforced concrete + masonry).

In addition, sonic tests results show clearly that walls belonging to the narthex and apse are in worse condition than the longitudinal body walls, fact which should be taken into consideration in later phases of the project.
