Model-based design of experiments for model discrimination (MBDoE-MD) is a powerful tool that can greatly accelerate the development of first-principles mathematical models. After a preliminary collection of experimental data, multiple model structures are typically proposed to describe the system under investigation and its underlying phenomena. By leveraging the model equations and values of the parameters, MBDoE-MD aims to design experiments that maximise information, facilitating the comparison between rival models and allowing the most appropriate model structure to be selected. The DigitAlgaesation project is approaching its conclusion. All Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) are at the end of their third year and most of them are finalising their Thesis to complete the Doctorate program. Depending on the strain, microalgae are rich in protein, carbohydrates, lipids and offer highly valuable components such as astaxanthin or β‐carotene. Moreover, microalgae take up CO2 and can grow solely on sunlight with high areal productivities.
