Lo so, è l’ennesimo post con il Polmone di mare (Rhizostoma pulmo).
Me ne rendo conto ma è talmente bella che ogni volta che la incontro non resisto. E ogni volta scopro qualche particolare nuovo.
Forse è anche per questo che non mi stanco mai di fotografarle.
I know, it’s yet another post about barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo).
I’m aware, but they’re so beautiful that every time I encounter one, I just can’t resist. And every time I discover some new detail.
Maybe that’s also why I never get tired of photographing them.

Per vedere gli alieni a volte basta mettere la testa sott’acqua.
Gli Ctenofori li ho già fotografati ma questa volta ho cercato di fare delle macro e sono venuti fuori dei nuovi dettagli. Il mare non smette mai di stupirmi.
To see aliens, sometimes all you have to do is stick your head underwater.
I’ve photographed ctenophores before, but this time I tried macro shots, and new details emerged. The sea never ceases to amaze me.

Being there with an exhibition of my photographs at the entrance of the theatre, in a setting so rich in vision, sensitivity, and love for the sea, was a real honour for me.

Prime luci sul paesello. Il vento entra deciso, il mare si agita, in fondo spuntano i monti con la neve. E anche questa mattina ne è valsa la pena.
First light on the village. The wind comes in decisively, the sea is agitated, in the background the mountains emerge with snow. and this morning it was worth it too

Quando nuoti in mare non sai mai cosa succederà. A volte niente. A volte invece il mare decide di regalarti qualcosa.
L’altra mattina mi sono fermato un attimo per riprendere fiato e con la coda dell’occhio li ho visti arrivare. Ho preso la macchinetta fotografica dal pallone e sono rimasto immobile. Tre delfini sono passati accanto a me, tranquilli, come se fosse la cosa più normale del mondo. Un solo scatto e un momento che non dimenticherò.
When you swim in the sea, you never know what will happen. Sometimes nothing. Other times, the sea decides to give you something.
The other morning I paused for a moment to catch my breath, and out of the corner of my eye I saw them approaching. I grabbed my camera from the buoy and stayed completely still. Three dolphins passed right beside me, calm, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. One single shot and a moment I won’t forget

Nuotare all’alba non è sport, non è abitudine. È disciplina mentale. È pace guadagnata. Perché la magia esiste, ma solo se ti svegli prima che il giorno faccia rumore.
Swimming at dawn is not sport, it’s not habit. It’s mental discipline. It’s earned peace. Because magic exists, but only if you wake up before the day starts making noise.

Qualche tempo fa, alle Azzorre, ho finalmente fatto una cosa che sognavo da tantissimo: nuotare con gli squali.
Li amo da sempre. Eleganti, silenziosi, potenti.
Essere lì con loro, nel blu, è stata un’esperienza fortissima, intensa, difficile da spiegare a parole.
Un misto di rispetto, adrenalina e pura meraviglia. Una di quelle esperienze che ti restano addosso.
E che so già che voglio ripetere al più presto.

Some time ago, in the Azores, I finally did something I had been dreaming about for a long time: swimming with sharks.
I’ve always loved them. Elegant, silent, powerful.
Being there with them, in the blue, was an incredibly strong and intense experience, hard to put into words.
A mix of respect, adrenaline, and pure wonder. One of those experiences that stays with you.
And one I already know I want to repeat as soon as possible.
Thanks to Silvio from for explaining what to do and what not to do, and for guiding me through this magic.

Le meduse e io abbiamo un rapporto complicato: loro mi pizzicano, io le fotografo.
Oggi però ho trovato questa povera Pelagia incastrata in un pezzo di plastica.
E lì passa tutto: l’antipatia, le punture… resta solo il fatto che il mare non se lo merita.
Ogni volta che buttiamo qualcosa, da qualche parte finisce addosso a qualcuno.
Stavolta era una medusa. Domani può essere molto peggio.
Alla fine l’ho liberata 😃
Jellyfish and I have a complicated relationship: they pinch me, I photograph them.
But today I found this poor Pelagia stuck in a piece of plastic.
And everything passes there: the dislike, the stings... all that remains is that the sea doesn’t deserve it.
Every time we throw something away, it ends up on someone somewhere.
This time it was a jellyfish. Tomorrow can be much worse.
I finally freed her 😃
