When I visited Mamoiada in Sardegna earlier this summer, it was an experience of discovery.
It was fascinating to learn more about the energy and activity of the Mamoiada vintners that is going on since 2019.
The Mamoiada vintners association was constituted in 2015 but it had a small makeover in 2019 with the creation of the Mamojà Vives yearly event. A lot of younger vintners, from the younger generation, has since then started up on their own by taking over the family vineyards or started to work in the family winery.
✅ There is a tendency towards fresher, more fruit-forward, and drinkable wines...without losing in structure and complexity.
✅ A younger generation is, as mentioned above, starting to make its voice heard.
✅ There are 200 families who make wine in Mamoiada, a comune of 2500 inhabitants, and 33 of these bottle their wines. 77 of these are members of the Mamoiada vintners association. Most, if not all, of the member vintners are naturally organic even if not certified as the area is very suited for viticulture.
Have you been to the Mamoiada area❓
