Arts and Democracy: What’s at stake today?
Europe’s democracy and shared values are under increasing pressure, from internal erosion to external forces. In this context, culture is gaining renewed urgency as a cornerstone of democratic resilience.
The EU’s Compass for Culture places artistic freedom, cultural rights and cultural participation at the heart of safeguarding democracy. But key questions remain:
👉 What threats do artists and cultural organisations face today?
👉 How can artistic freedom be effectively protected?
👉 Which cultural rights are being overlooked?
👉 And how can policy commitments be turned into concrete measures for a sector under growing pressure?
This online event will present early findings from the study 'Between Rhetoric and Reality: Cultural Rights, Artistic Freedom, and Democratic Resilience', featuring perspectives from the performing arts sector, reactions from EU policymakers and space for open dialogue
📅 Date: 28 January
⏰ Time: 14:00 - 15:30 CET
