The Cave Man

In later years, the most exciting entry in the world of Verdicchio is Stefano Zoli in Matelica.
His normal work is being the winemaker of Chiara Condello and Condé in Predappio, Romagna.
But from the vintage of 2020 he also has his own business in Matelica.
He makes his “normal” Verdicchio from 3 different parcels.

Since the 2021 vintage he also makes a Riserva from single vineyard called Belrespiro in the Sainale part of Matelica.
The vines are 60-70 years old and the surface is only 0,89 hectare so very few bottles are made.
In this part of the valley the soil is “Formazione di Camerino” and is calcareous marl with layers of sand.
The vineyard faces southeast and the altitude is 430 meter over sea level.

Very soon this wine will hit the market and I had the great pleasure of tasting it yesterday.
It is of course a very young wine and it will need further time to develop but I can only recommend lovers of Verdicchio to try to get hold of a bottle…or two.
