A functional obturator prosthesis constructed to restore the barrier between the nasal and oral cavity, which may improve phonation, in particular the masticatory function, since the resection was not horizontally extended, which permitted sufficient support and stability to be established.

The curvature of the buccal aspect of the prosthesis should resemble the partial maxillectomy, by which the angle line of the borders accommodates the actual oral demands for the resection, moreover, the surrounding residual tissue.

The necessity to assign a reliable accommodation in the posterior region, which mimics the maxillary tuberosity and hamular notch shape,
is still mandatory to avoid interference through functional movement of the mandible, as will tissue post-deformation.
